Marcello doesn't really exist - Daria made him up for a story she wrote for O'Neill's class. He is probably a high school teacher, and writes an award-winning weekly column with Daria - it is presumed that she does most of the actual work on that. They have no children, partly because Daria sees how Quinn's kids act and gets uneasy about it.
