HOW TO USE
THE DATABASE

by Mike Xeno

First: Be aware that there are SPOILERS here. Lots of them. In fact, if you were to read through the entire database, just about everything that ever happened in the entire TV series would be revealed at one point or another. This database is primarily meant for use by those who are already familiar with the show, not as an introduction to those who are not (of course, if you haven't seen the show but don't mind if the element of surprise is gone, feel free to indulge!)

Now that that's out of the way, observe the long list of names to the right.  Simply click on any of those names to bring up that character's page.  Some of the descriptions are one or two lines, some are several paragraphs, depending on how much information is available on a given character.  The entries are cross-referenced so that clicking on Jane's name in Daria's entry will lead you to Jane, and so on.

I have taken some liberties with the naming.  For instance, there's no evidence that Daria's Aunt Rita went back to her maiden name following her divorce, but I have chosen to list her as "Barksdale, Rita" because that's where people would be likely to look for her on the list.  Likewise, there's no evidence that Trent and Jane's Uncle Max is also named "Lane" but I listed him as such to keep the Lane relatives together on the list.  However, I have not listed Andrea under "Hecuba" even though it's a common convention among fans Hecuba is her last name.  The evidence for this is that in "The Daria Database" there is a comic strip attributed to Andrea called The Adventures of Queen Hecuba, with Andrea herself in the starring role.  In my opinion, that just wasn't strong enough evidence.

I have had to guess on certain name spellings.  Is Quinn's new friend from Is It College Yet? "Lindey" or "Lindy"?  It's impossible to tell.  In several cases, I've just picked whatever looks good to me.

Many characters have not been given names.  These characters have been listed descriptively, like the various College Students you see if you glance to the right.  In cases like this, I've done my best to identify the character(s) in question.

My information on the character descriptions comes from four different sources:

  1. The show itself.
  2. MTV's official web site.
  3. The Daria Diaries by Anne D. Bernstein.
  4. The Daria Database by Peggy Nichol.

I did not consider the unaired pilot episode "Sealed With a Kick", the computer game "Daria's Inferno", or any episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head.

For those who are wondering, the list has slightly over 400 names.  It represents a lot of work and time on my part (I won't say how many hours I've spent on this, because my wife might read this part and it's better if she doesn't know).  I have no objection if visitors want to download and use the information on this list, that's what it's there for, but I do object to any part of it being posted anywhere else without my permission.  If you want to quote from an entry on the list on a message board or something, I'd far rather you posted a link than copy the text off this site.

HOW TO HELP
by Kemical Reaxion

If someone significant is missing from the database or a piece of information you see here is wrong, please e-mail me. Likewise, if you find any technical problems with the site, broken links for example, drop me a line and I'll look into it.

Most of the characters in the database do not yet have pictures. I'm working on collecting images for these characters, but it will take time and effort. If you'd like to help out by providing images for the characters, please feel free to e-mail them to me at the address above. I can use all the help I can get!

One last note: I'd like to personally thank Mike for putting this database together and for allowing me to post it here. The creation of this database required a colossal effort on his part, and I'm very appreciative of all the time and hard work he put into bringing his idea to life.
