Tom's uncle is observed playing chess with Angier Sloane at the "Cove". He also plays checkers with Tom. Tom suggests that his uncle is not terribly observant - he tells Daria when he gets back that the checkers game is probably still going on in his absence.

It is possible that this is the same uncle who donated a wing to Bromwell University.
